~ When scheduling for wax services be aware of the protocol for waxing.  If you have a history of waxing you may already be

    familiar with this list.

1.  Wearing loose and comfortable clothing to your appointment is best and helps minimize friction on waxed areas of skin.

2. Hair must be at least an 1/8 – 1/4″ long for removal.  Previously shaved area of hair needs to be atleast 1/2″ long and/or 3

weeks from the last shave for hair removal efficacy and comfort.

3. Exfoliate the area to be waxed the day BEFORE your appointment (helps facilitate hair removal and lessens skin irritation)

4. Do not expose the area to direct sun or tanning beds for at least 24 hours BEFORE waxing.  Sunburned or even slightly            burned skin can not be waxed.

5. Be aware, you should not wax if using Accutane, Differin, Retin A, Coumadin, Warfarin or any other AHA products, these        can cause the skin to become highly fragile, sensitive, bruise or lift easily.

~New clients will fill out a brief, one page, informational form to keep a record of your service history.

~New to waxing? You may feel anxious, nervous or even a little scared,  I want to assure you at, Wax Me Crazy,  you are in very

competent, experienced hands!  I will guide you through every step and take the time that is necessary for your first experience      to be the BEST that you can feel.

~First timers should know: depending on which area of the face or body being waxed, skin may and will become reddened and          sensitive.  Initially, it is very common for some areas like the back, chest/stomach and brow areas for the skin to react with                  histamine bumps and possibly follicular blood spots. This initial response is temporary and is a result of hair being pulled from its    root sheath where it was fed with blood for so long.

~Males getting a back, chest/stomach wax; It is highly recommended to take one (non-drowsy 24 hr ) anti-histamine 30 min,                before your appointment to off set this very common, initial skin reaction when starting to groom through waxing.

~Maintaining your wax regularly every 4~6 weeks will greatly inhibit and stop certain skin reactions.

AFTER WAX HOME CARE

1. For 24 hours protect your freshly waxed skin:

Waxing distends (opens) pores/follicles.

Vacated follicles are more susceptible to bacterial infection within the first 24 hrs.

It is recommended to refrain from certain activities that create sweat, friction and heat

which could introduce bacteria, microbes or viruses more easily to the open follicles of the waxed areas.

2. Refrain from certain activities for 24 hrs. such as:

Sun bathing, tanning beds, spray tans, saunas, hot tubs, high-intensity, sweaty exercising,  swimming

in ocean, fresh water and chlorinated bodies of water,  sexual intercourse for brazilian and crack area.

3. Loose fit clothing feels best after waxing:

It is best to come to your wax appointment in loose, comfortable clothing to minimize friction

and for 24 hrs. while the (possibly tender) skin recovers.

4. Exfoliate* 48–72 hrs. after waxing.

Begin exfoliating waxed areas lightly every other day or 4 times a week, thereafter.

Moisturize the waxed areas with a non-pore clogging nutritive oil* or healthy skin creme*

(no chemical additives) morning and night, as your new skin waxing regimen.

EQUIP* YOURSELF:

Check out our optimized glycolic liquid body soap and exfoliator cloths and back towels to

keep ingrown hairs at bay and your skin silky smooth.

~Utilize our herbal lotions, essential oil rubs and other professional products to help keep your skin

hydrated, soft, and moisturized for optimal condition.

UNDERSTANDING VARIOUS EPILATION METHODS ~ PROS and CONS

People are unique; with various hair growth types and patterns.  Your individual goals, skin type, age, hormonal fluctuations, ethnic backgrounds,  Rx and OTC  products and even your wallet can and do play a role in which method of hair removal is your best bet. Since the days of the ancient Middle East, removal of body hair has been a thing people do.  There are several methods to get rid of or manage body hair that is unruly or unwanted and even more reasons why someone would want to remove their body hair.

The most common and readily available methods are shaving, waxing, trimmers, depilatory creams/gels, sugaring,

lasering, electrolysis and threading.  Many people today are able to enjoy heightened sensations of skin.

Loving the satisfyingly smooth skin that can be achieved and flaunted through removal of hair.

Hair is great, I love hair….it’s my ‘mane’ focus, after all, I’m a Leo (my astrology sign)!

Hair has a place, a reason for existing on our body, on our head, in our nose etc….

Yet, we are creative people and have the ability and notion to play with it, cut it, remove it, color it, bleach it, design it, style it, pull it and grow it!Let’s do a quick overview of some pros and cons of these methods, not necessarily exhaustive…

just enough to bring it HOME.

SHAVING = It shouldn’t be uncomfortable or hurt, unless you nick or cut yourself and it’s on you to carry out this tedious job and very often – too often.  With hard to reach places like your back, bum and genitals.  Always buying pricey razors and new blades to prevent ‘old blade’ razor burn.  Shaving produces a blunt cut at the skin’s surface; creating a very coarse and prickly growth out of the skin {partners cuddling you, hate this feeling-ugh!}.

DEPILATORY CREAMS/GELS/FOAMS = OK, These are just SCARY!  Why would we want to put anything on the largest, most beloved organ of our body that literally melts our hair off?!  These strong chemicals break down the keratin in the hair to melt it away, but do not go deep as the root of the hair.  Therefore, this method does not last as long as waxing, which removes the actual root.  I’ve never attempted this on my skin, but have heard that it can be irritating to the skin, smelly, sting and cause chemical burns, not to mention having to wait with this chemical on your body to deposit itself enough to melt off your hair.  Please don’t put this on your face or genital area – YIKES!

LASERING = A tool that utilizes a concentrated beam of light is swiped over the skin with the feeling of a warm zap; the laser works most efficiently & effectively on particular skin types and ethnicity in tandem with the pigment (color) of your hair. This method is very, very costly and must be maintained until desired results are reached – who knows how long that will take(?).  Hairless results are not instantaneous & against popular belief are not truly permanent in the way we have thought or been told.  For those concerned with the accumulation of radiation into our bodies – yes, lasers emit radiation – oh, but it’s just ‘a little’ they say – WHOA!

ELECTROLYSIS = This is the only true form of ‘permanent’ hair removal. This method can be used on a wide range of skin and hair types, including gray, white or blond hairs, even fine textures of hair.  A tiny needle penetrates each follicle & releases heat/energy to damage the follicle and prevent re-growth of the hair.  However, this extremely expensive method is really only recommended for very small areas, like those pesky random chin hairs that females may experience at some point.

TRIMMERS = These are used primarily for manscaping if you like the hair on your body, but just want to control the jungle it can become.  These are used all the time in my wax and barbering studio for just such purposes.  Let me do the Job for you…I will get all the hard to reach places and clean up the hairy mess!

THREADING = The ancient art of threading is really cool!  Primarily utilized for very small areas of the face like brows, lips & chin.  A good alternative for those unable to facial wax due to the use of AHA’s or certain products & Rx that cause thinning of skin.  Threading is very economical, similar to wax pricing.

SUGARING = Here we have another ancient old tradition of hair removal.  A sugary solution made with natural ingredients of sugar, lemon juice & water.  An agreeable mixture if you are prone to exceptional allergic reactions and have super sensitive skin. Some may use a cotton strip for removal, unless, traditionally applied to the skin while holding a ball of it in the palm of the hand, working it by continually folding it over and over into itself rhythmically, then pulling to remove hair.  However it’s a little tedious and more time consuming than regular wax methods.

WAXING =  Finally we’re HOME…I saved the BEST for last!  I especially love this instantaneous sanitary method of hair removal.  Each application of wax is applied with a wooden spatula and is never dipped back into the wax pot a second time!  Feels of a brief sting to the skin because hair is being pulled from its root.

It is economical, very quick, very effective and very efficient to achieve the result you are after, HAIRLESS,SMOOTH SKIN AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!  After the process is over you don’t have to worry about that unwanted hair for at least 3 weeks before it grows through the skin and really presents itself appropriately to qualify for waxing again.  When hair is waxed it is uprooted from the follicle.  A newly formed hair grows out of the skin with a beveled tip – this helps the new hair grow with a fine texture to feel softer to the touch and not with a coarse texture when being blunt cut by a razor, as with shaving.  Wax can remove hair that is as small as 1/8 of an inch, but 1/4 is even better for certain removal.  Other hairs yet lurking under the skin will be present for the next wax session.  Waxing is a method that thrives with most optimal results when you wax at standard intervals regularly & consistently every 4 weeks.  Nothing beats that clean, smooth, fresh feeling after you’ve just been waxed – it literally becomes ADDICTIVE!

POI:

There are 3 basic types of wax utilized today.   You may hear them called by various names.

I like to keep the names simple: Hard wax, soft wax and sugar wax.

Hard Wax: Formulated with beeswax and pine resins*. Some brands with oils and polymers. Adheres only to hair and not skin.  Applied to the skin, it cures or ‘hardens’ and is lifted from one end to remove the hair under the strip. Hard wax is mostly utilized for multi~directional hair growth and more tender & sensitive areas such as the face, parts of the chest, sections of the back, underarms and genital region (Brazilian area).

SOFT WAX:  Formulated with beeswax and pine resins*. Some brands with oils and polymers.

Adheres to the hair and the skin.  A strip of material is rubbed onto the soft wax to remove the hair and wax together.

Soft wax is utilized for speed waxing larger areas of the body like the back, sections of the stomach, arms, buttocks and legs.

Body waxing at, Wax Me Crazy, utilizes hard and soft waxes (formulated and manufactured of the highest quality polymers)  You will find that your time on the wax bed is efficiently used when both of these formulations are utilized in full body waxing.

SUGAR WAX: Formulated with sugar, lemon and water. Adheres to hair and skin.   Traditionally,  a ball of of the sugar wax is repeatedly rotated and stretched with the fingers, applying wax against the grain of the hair growth and pulled in opposite direction.  A little more time consuming and usually more expensive, yet with the same result as traditional hard/soft

wax - removal of hair.

*If you are allergic to tree resins; sugar wax may be better suited for allergic prone skin.
